Dara Breeze Eman

I’m a multimedia artist based in Seattle, WA with a background in photography, graphic design, and filmmaking. Since 2017, I have captured photographs and turned them into graphic art pieces. My passion for photography and digital storytelling comes from the empowerment of agency in giving a voice to those who aren’t heard.

During my undergrad at Washington State University, I explored the spectrum of inclusion and diversity inside digital humanities as well, as researching the opportunities for finding a solution in the current issues of Ai technologies. My experience as an African American woman studying in a tech-based field has opened up my perspective of understanding the adversity I faced because of the color of my skin and ethnic background. These issues are associated with the lack of positive representation of minority populations due to the lack of narratives the media conveys. My goal for Brze Media is to be a platform that normalizes intersectionality while creating opportunity for authenticity.

Treating Persistent Traumatic Slave Syndrome (WEBINAR)

Use of the Gottman Method with African Americans Impacted by Post Traumatic Slavery Syndrome will help to inform the thought process and work of clinicians with couples who have been deeply impacted by slavery, discrimination, and systemic racism that has existed in the United States for the past 400 years. Without the knowledge of these “veiled shackles” that often prevent couples from thriving in their relationship, clinicians may provide inadequate treatment. Post Traumatic Slavery Syndrome is the critical work of Dr. Joy DeGruy based on over 30 years of research. Tools taught through the Gottman Method are known to be helpful with individuals who have experienced trauma, and this webinar will take a deeper dive into issues specific to African American couples and will offer insights to work through those issues.

“My passion for photography and digital storytelling comes from empowerment of agency in giving a voice to those who aren’t heard. The lack of representation of inclusion in mass media channels has caused turmoil in creating a lack of awareness towards minority narratives. I use my lens as a tool to showcase the beauty in diversity and inclusion under a positive light.”
